UPCOMING SKEPTIC EVENTS
The following event will be held at Baxter Lecture Hall on the Caltech
campus in Pasadena, California. See directions below.
Sunday, December 2, 2:00pm
DR. ROBERT CIALDINI
Professor of Psychology, Arizona State University
INFLUENCE!
Turning Persuasion from an Art into a Science (with
commentary on the making and unmaking of terrorist zeal)
The ability to persuade--to capture the audience, convince the undecided,
convert the opposition--has always been a precious skill. But, over the past
several decades, the delicate art of personal persuasion has been transformed
into the solid science of social influence. Dr. Robert Cialdini, one of the
world's leading experts on the psychology of influence, will describe
scientifically-grounded principles that increase the likelihood that people
will move in the direction of a request. He will also comment on how these
principles can help us understand how terrorist fervor can be built and how
we might employ the same principles to dilute such dedication.
Donations at the door: $8.00 nonmembers; $5.00 members
Directions: Off the 210 freeway, exit Lake south, left on Del Mar, right on
Michigan, park in the faculty parking lot. Baxter is to the south east of the
large white round auditorium. Off the 110 freeway follow to the end where it
becomes Arroyo Parkway, continue north, right on Del Mar, right on Michigan,
etc.
